Before you go

  • The downtown market is Saturday mornings, 8:30 to 1; on other days start at the museum instead.
  • The Collingwood Museum is admission by donation, about $5 a person suggested, open Monday to Saturday 10 to 4.
  • Sunset Point has paid waterfront parking from 9 to 9, and the beach is pebbles, so bring water shoes.
  • Georgian Bay is cool into early summer, so it is a wading-and-playground stop in late June more than a swim.
  • Everything here is close together, so it is an easy half or full day with small kids.

Questions, answered plainly

Is this a good rainy-day option?

Partly. The museum is indoors, but Sunset Point is outdoor, so swap the beach for a bakery or the library if the weather turns.

What does it cost?

Very little. The market is free to walk, the museum is by donation (about $5 a person), and the main fixed cost is waterfront parking at Sunset Point.

How long does it take?

A relaxed half day, or a full day if you linger at the beach. The three stops are within a few minutes of each other in town.

Is there a playground?

Yes. Sunset Point Park has a playground and open green space, plus a pebble beach and a flat waterfront path good for strollers and bikes.

Can we swim?

You can wade. The water at Sunset Point is shallow but cool in late June, and the shore is pebbly rather than sandy, so it suits paddling more than a long swim.
