TTC Fare Capping Calculator
The TTC is ending monthly passes on August 31, 2026. From September 1, you just tap and ride free after 47 paid trips in a month. Enter how often you ride to see what you will actually pay, and when your free rides start.
Fares are frozen for 2026: adult $3.30, youth $2.35, senior $2.25 a tap. The cap is 47 paid trips in a calendar month and resets on the 1st. A paid trip is the first tap that starts a two-hour transfer window, so transfers inside two hours do not count again.
How TTC fare capping works
There is nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for. You tap on with PRESTO, a credit or debit card, or your phone, the same as today. The system counts your paid trips through the month. Once you reach 47 paid trips, every trip for the rest of that calendar month is free. Your spending is capped at the price of 47 fares, which is what the old monthly pass cost, so heavy riders are protected and lighter riders simply pay less.

Common questions
Should I still buy a monthly pass?
You cannot. Adult, youth, senior, and Fair Pass monthly passes are discontinued as of August 31, 2026. From September 1 you just tap and the cap protects you automatically.
Do transfers count toward the 47 trips?
No. A paid trip is the first tap that opens a two-hour transfer window. Any taps within that two-hour window are part of the same trip and do not add to your count.
Does the cap carry over month to month?
No. The count resets to zero on the first day of each calendar month, so your free rides do not roll over.
What about GO Transit or other 905 agencies?
This cap is TTC trips only. Trips on GO, MiWay, YRT, Brampton Transit, and Durham are separate and are not counted toward the 47.
Is fare capping cheaper than a pass?
For most riders, yes. Lighter riders pay only for the trips they take, where a pass would have been wasted money. Heavy riders are protected: your spending is capped at 47 adult fares, $155.10, which comes in just under the old $156.00 adult monthly pass, and every trip past 47 is free. The calculator works out your own number.
