Questions, answered plainly

How long before my health coverage starts in my new province?

It depends where you land. Several provinces start coverage immediately or on arrival registration, while others impose a waiting period of up to three months, during which your old province generally covers you under the interprovincial agreement. Pick your destination above: the planner shows the current rule and links the official page.

How long do I have to switch my driver licence and plates?

Typically 30 to 90 days for the licence and a similar window for vehicle registration, but it varies by province and the clock starts the day you take up residence. The planner computes your actual deadline dates from your move date and cites each province’s source.

When should I book movers for an interprovincial move?

Eight weeks out is the safe mark, and longer for end-of-month dates in June, July, and August, when Canadian moving demand peaks. Mail forwarding with Canada Post is best set up two to three weeks before moving day.

What addresses do people forget to change?

The CRA tops the list, followed by Elections Canada, vehicle insurance, and any registries tied to your old province. The planner includes a master address-change list with direct links to each federal service, plus the provincial ones your route needs.
