How the moon readout works
The phase and illumination come from the sun, moon, and earth geometry for the selected date. Moonrise and moonset depend on your latitude and longitude, so the same night can look different across the country.
At high latitudes the moon can stay above or below the horizon for long stretches. When that happens, the tool says so instead of forcing a rise or set time that does not exist.

Why does the full moon date differ by place?
The phase is global, but local rise, set, and viewing time are not. A full moon can peak during daylight in one place and rise after dark in another.
Is my location uploaded?
No. The place picker stores the chosen place in your browser and the moon math runs on the device.
