Before you go

  • The downtown market runs Saturday mornings, Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving, 8:30 to 1, so go early or build the day around the other two stops.
  • Scenic Caves charges admission and is open for the summer; one ticket covers the caves, the suspension bridge, the trails and the playground. Wear closed shoes for the rock.
  • Wasaga Beach is a provincial park with paid day-use parking; on hot weekends the lots fill and the gates close, so arrive before midday.
  • Bring sunscreen and a change of clothes. Georgian Bay stays cool into early summer, so late June is better for sandcastles and a quick dip than a long swim.
  • The caves and the beach are each most of a day on their own, so leave plenty of time or pick one.

Questions, answered plainly

How long does this Collingwood family day take?

Plan a full day. Scenic Caves and Wasaga Beach are each easily half a day on their own, so most families do the market plus one of the two, or move quickly to fit all three.

What does it cost?

The downtown market is free to walk through and Wasaga Beach is paid day-use parking by the vehicle. Scenic Caves charges per-person admission, which is the main expense of the day.

Is it good for young children?

Yes. Scenic Caves has a children's playground and short trails, Wasaga is a shallow sandy swimming beach, and the market is an easy stroll. Nothing on the day needs a long hike.

When is the best time to go?

Summer. Scenic Caves runs spring to mid-November and Wasaga swimming is best on a warm day. Come on a Saturday for the downtown market, and reach Wasaga before midday on hot days, when the lots fill and the gates can close.

Is it stroller-friendly?

The market and the beach are. Scenic Caves has the playground and easy trails, but the caves and crevasses involve stairs and tight squeezes, so plan to carry little ones for that part.
