Questions, answered plainly

Are strawberries actually ready this week?

Yes. Ontario field strawberries run from mid-June, and Barrie Hill Farms reported good pick-your-own supply at the end of June. The season is short, so go soon and check the farm's daily update.

What does it cost?

Moderate. Barrie Hill has a small per-person admission of $5 to $7 plus berries by the basket, the zoo is about $26 an adult and $19 a child, and the market is free to browse.

Is it good for young children?

Very. Easy berry rows with a play area, a small walkable zoo, and a market make it one of the gentlest days here for toddlers and young kids.

How far is it from Collingwood?

About 30 to 40 minutes southeast toward Barrie and Elmvale. It is the farthest-afield trip, so it works best as a planned morning rather than a quick outing.

Is there food on site?

Pack your own. The zoo has no restaurant, the farm sells baked goods and berries, and the Elmvale market has vendors, so a picnic is the safe bet.
