The Date Almanac
An early-summer day around Vineland
Strawberry picking, Rockway Falls, a local market, and a meadery
Start with strawberry picking at Tigchelaar Berry Farms, then Rockway Falls a few minutes on, taste mead at Rosewood Estates Winery & Meadery, and finish at the Jordan Station market. 4 stops, none more than 11 km apart, all around Vineland.
- 1
Pick the patch · Vineland
Tigchelaar Berry Farms
A family berry operation running since the 1940s and an early adopter of pick-your-own in Niagara. The Red Barn farm market sells the day-neutral strawberries they're known for plus local produce and baked goods.
- 2
Shop and refuel · Jordan Station
Thiessen Farms
A small third-generation family farm on the Niagara bench growing vegetables, herbs, flowers, and blackberries. It runs as a CSA and stand rather than a big agri-tourism spread, so the appeal is the produce itself.
- 3
See the falls
Rockway Falls
Two ramp-style falls drop roughly 20 and 12 metres where Fifteen Mile Creek cuts the escarpment, the tallest around. Take in the view from near the crest or follow a Bruce Trail side path down toward the base.
- 4
Mead tasting · Beamsville
Rosewood Estates Winery & Meadery
Niagara's original meadery, run by a beekeeping family with hives along the escarpment. You taste estate honey worked into the meads and wines, and the bee experiences in season explain where the flavour comes from.
