Ingredients

  • 8 cups peeled sliced apples
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 190 C (375 F) and butter a 9 by 13 inch baking dish.
  2. Toss the apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and cinnamon in the dish.
  3. Rub the oats, flour, brown sugar, butter, and salt together until the mixture forms clumps.
  4. Scatter the topping over the apples in an even layer.
  5. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, until the apples are tender and the topping is browned.
  6. Cool 15 minutes before serving so the juices thicken.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet baking apples for better flavour and texture.

Pairing Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or thick cream.
