A fall day around Fonthill
Pick-your-own pumpkins and a corn maze, Decew Falls, a local market, and a meadery
Start with pick-your-own pumpkins and a corn maze at Howell Family Pumpkin Farm, then Decew Falls a few minutes on, taste mead at Rosewood Estates Winery & Meadery, and finish at the Pelham market. 4 stops, none more than 22 km apart, all around Fonthill.
- 1
Pick the patch · Fonthill
Howell Family Pumpkin Farm
A working agritourism farm where you cut your own zinnias and sunflowers in summer and pick pumpkins in fall, with wagon rides, a corn maze, a jumping pillow, and a pen of farm animals.
- 2
Shop and refuel · Pelham
Pelham Farmers' Market
A compact downtown-Fonthill market of around twenty stalls, where Niagara growers sell their own fruit, vegetables, maple, honey and baked goods and you can talk to the people who raised what you're buying.
- 3
See the falls
Decew Falls
A 22-metre plunge that drops into a bowl-shaped gorge below the restored Morningstar Mill, with the falls only steps from the parking area and the mill open to walk through. The gorge edges are steep and unfenced.
- 4
Mead tasting · Beamsville
Rosewood Estates Winery & Meadery
Niagara's original meadery, run by a beekeeping family with hives along the escarpment. You taste estate honey worked into the meads and wines, and the bee experiences in season explain where the flavour comes from.
