Reading your daylight

The calculator uses standard solar-position equations for your latitude, longitude, and selected date. Sunrise and sunset include the common atmospheric-refraction allowance used in public almanacs.

Golden hour is the low warm light after sunrise and before sunset. Blue hour is the deeper twilight when the sun sits below the horizon. Local hills and buildings can shift the real light on your property.

Daylight questions

Why is solar noon not 12:00?

Clock time follows time zones. Solar noon follows your longitude and the equation of time, so it often lands before or after noon on the clock.

Does this use a paid weather service?

No. Daylight is computed locally from date and coordinates.
