Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp melted butter, for brushing
Steps
- Stir the warm milk, yeast, honey, egg, melted butter, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the whole wheat flour and 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, then mix to a soft dough.
- Knead 8 to 10 minutes, adding only enough flour to keep the dough from sticking badly.
- Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Shape into 12 rolls and set in a greased 9 by 13 inch pan. Rise 35 to 45 minutes, until puffy.
- Heat the oven to 190 C (375 F) and bake 18 to 22 minutes, until golden. Brush with melted butter.
Notes
A slightly tacky dough makes softer rolls. Too much flour turns them dense.
Pairing Serve with potato leek soup or roast chicken.
