Maple Hot Chocolate

A simple stovetop cocoa sweetened with maple syrup, rich enough for a snow day and quick enough for after dinner.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 85 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • Whipped cream, optional

Steps

  1. Whisk 1 cup milk with the cocoa powder and maple syrup in a saucepan until smooth.
  2. Whisk in the remaining milk and set over medium heat.
  3. Heat until steaming, stirring often, but do not boil.
  4. Add the chopped chocolate, vanilla, and salt, then whisk until smooth.
  5. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream if using.

Notes

For a darker cup, add another tablespoon of cocoa. For children, let the mugs stand a minute before serving.
